A Web page from the Rockford Register Star's business section on Sunday demonstrates the change that has swept the United States, as consumers shifted to self-service devices and services such as redbox and Netflix to provide their DVD movies and games. However, some retailers are holding on in the sector.
Last week reporter Melissa Westphal asked readers how they get their DVDs. The answer is in the headline of Sunday's story: "Movie fans like simplicity, low cost of one-box shopping."
In the left column is a photo of a customer, a redbox and other self-service vending devices in the local Logli supermarket chain.
In the right column are several "Related Stories" from this year. In July, The Star ran "Logli Joins DVD Kiosk Network." Last May the story "Video Stores' fan base still strong," found that the brick-and-mortar Family Video DVD rental chain was doing well despite the change in consumer behavior. Further down on the right column is a story from January, "Rockford Blockbuster Closing."
