Toronto-based Signifi Solutions Inc. reported its Thunderbolt entertainment kiosk houses in 45 square feet the same number of movies and games that had once been in a 4,000-square-foot DVD-rental store. Nine months ago Signifi began operating in an Ontario store the Thunderbolt, a kiosk with the capacity to hold more than 7,000 DVDs and Blu-ray movies and games and accommodate six simultaneous users.
The modular design of the kiosk allows operators to add to a one-customer-facing station and turn it into a two-station, double-sided kiosk. In comparison, most DVD-rental kiosks are not designed for modular growth, so the operator can only increase capacity by adding a second freestanding unit, according to Signifi. The modular design also allows the operator to expand the unit to service up to six customers at the same time.
The Thunderbolt is being marketed to retailers, investors and owner/operators.
"We envision this solution crossing over to other markets such as government, medical and library facilities ... (a)nywhere there is both a requirement for large capacity of inventory and numerous users. The RFID system used to manage and track inventory is well accepted in these environments," said Tom Hall, sales vice president.
