Zipcar Inc., which offers self-service car rentals to approved users, announced recently that it has filed for a proposed initial public offering with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Zipcar expects to use the net proceeds it receives from the offering to pay down some debts, with any remainder to be used for general corporate purposes. The book-running managers of the proposed offering will be Goldman, Sachs & Co. and J.P. Morgan. The number of shares to be offered and the price range for the offering have yet to be determined.
