NCR Corporation has announced a partnership with Xtra Mart convenience stores to deploy Blockbuster Express DVD-rental kiosks in 80 Xtra Mart locations in the New England and Mid-Atlantic regions. According to an NCR press release, the deployment will begin this month and should be complete this summer.
"By partnering with NCR, Xtra Mart is providing its customers with a total shopping experience, including fuel, food and entertainment at convenient locations with flexible hours," said Alex Camara, vice president and general manager, NCR Entertainment. "Our DVD-rental kiosk deployments are continuing to grow as more retail partners decide to incorporate entertainment options into the everyday shopping benefits they offer customers."
NCR aims to deploy about 10,000 Blockbuster Express kiosks by the end of 2010. Its 5,000 deployed kiosks are significantly fewer in number than industry leader redbox's roughly 20,000 deployed kiosks.
