Louisville, Colo.'s KIOSK Information Systems (KIOSK) announced the launch of Denver's much anticipated B-cycle kiosk-based bike sharing program on Earth Day. "The B-cycle kiosk deployment represents an emerging market in green self-service, where everything from the application benefits to the design of the equipment itself contribute to environmental sustainability," said KIOSK CEO Rick Malone in a press release. "The team spent months perfecting a design that goes well beyond lip-service conservation efforts."
Denver is the first U.S. city to deploy the B-cycle kiosks, which allow customers to rent bicycles.
The kiosks include eco-friendly design elements such as solar power panels and low-demand computing elements, enabling them to reduce energy consumption up to 80 percent below that of traditionally designed systems.
The 50-kiosk, 500-bike B-cycle deployment is the result of a collaborative effort between Denver city officials and KIOSK staff, the press release reports.
"The B-cycle deployment is unique because it's unfolding right in our own backyard," said Malone. "Our teams have worked in parallel on the factory floor for months, staging equipment and coordinating complex installation steps — all in preparation for a seamless Earth Day launch.
