Kiosk and print-solutions provider Source Technologies has announced it has been named Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment, or WEEE, compliant. WEEE is a directive of the European Union that compels electronic solutions providers to offer products free of hazardous materials and to enable a simple process for recycling their products.
Tom Crabtree, senior engineer of compliance for Source Technologies, says the effort will help curb the environmental impact of electronics waste:
Compliance will result in the reuse of certain parts, like RAM memory and displays, while additional nonreusable parts will be sorted and recycled. Ultimately, through this process less materials will end up in landfills.
Source Technologies says it will cover the cost of recycling various components and that, effective immediately, new products will be WEEE-compliant.
