The U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware today denied Universal Home Entertainment's motion to dismiss redbox's antitrust lawsuit against, redbox announced late on Monday.
The decision marks an important victory for redbox amid its fractured dealings with Hollywood movie studios. Both Sony Home Entertainment and Lionsgate have signed deals worth hundreds of millions with the entertainment-kiosk company. But Universal began a war with redbox last year when it instructed distributors to withhold new movie releases for 30 days; 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros. followed suit with similar announcements this month. Redbox already has sued 20th Century Fox in response.
