"Even though most kiosks have a primary purpose such as banking, bill payment, or another industry specific solution, companies don't have to limit themselves to a single resolve; it's not a one-trick pony," said Bill Lynch, Source's vice president of strategic development. "It's quite an investment to have the device provide only a single solution. When considering the cost of development, hardware, software and ongoing support, companies will want to examine the possibilities of the unit supporting multiple applications for their businesses."
Jorett said he finds retailers asking the question, "Why shouldn't multiple applications exist on one device?"
"As history has shown retailers, there will be a future application that they'll want to adopt. A multifunction kiosk will be able to accommodate this need.
"If we look at the current applications, most of them are not used all day. So it just doesn't make sense to have a single-function kiosk in most situations," Jorett said.
