Esprida and Smart Structures partner to deliver remote sensing and management of bridges, tunnels and highways to improve quality and safety

Santa Barbara, CA – October 30, 2006 - Esprida Corporation is pleased to announce it has formed a strategic alliance with Smart Structures, a leading provider of structural monitoring solutions for commercial and governmental users, on an initiative to build an Intelligent Infrastructure Surety (IIS) system.  The IIS system, which has major implications for government infrastructure budgets and public safety, collects, transmits, and processes information from wireless sensors embedded within the concrete of structures such as bridges, highways and tunnels. The IIS system combines Esprida remote management software, Smart Structures wireless sensors and GPS technology in a single system that provides real-time information on the health of a structure. "Our goal is to provide the agencies charged with ensuring the safety, integrity and availability of the nation's infrastructure with real-time visibility into the status and condition of every bridge, highway, dam and tunnel. As the remote management platform, Esprida software is essential in making this possible." says Tom Chiarella, President of Smart Structures. Smart Structures is currently providing solutions for structural testing and quality control on projects in Florida, Louisiana, and Virginia. The sensors generate data on a variety of factors that affect the integrity of a structure including weather, normal usage and natural disasters, as well as man-made threats. That information allows government agencies to monitor the condition of their infrastructure, dispatch critical services, plan maintenance, and improve overall safety. Pioneered by leading researchers at the University of Florida's Department of Civil Engineering, the solution uses the Esprida platform to provide continual condition-based monitoring, from networks of wireless sensors cast directly into wet concrete, to a central information management system. "Together with Smart Structures, Esprida Enterprise™ transforms the way structures are monitored. It provides accurate, reliable data on the structures' health for trending and analytics - information that is key to ensuring safety and minimizing repair costs. It also alerts officials if a structure is compromised" says Anila Jobanputra, President of Esprida Corporation. "Esprida is excited to be part of this leading edge initiative on quality control and safety". Media Contacts Esprida Corporation A.
