ASIATravelTips:Â KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is planning to add 16 self-service check-in machines at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. As a result of the expansion, 75 percent of KLM's check-in capacity will be "self-service."
Since last year, KLM has offered its passengers the best available check-in service through the Internet or with check-in machines at Schiphol. Average self-service and Internet check-in usage in the Netherlands currently amounts to about 50 percent. This is expected to increase to 65 percent by March 2006.
Passengers carrying an electronic ticket can check in via the Internet from 30 hours up to 1 hour prior to departure. For flights to the United States, Internet check-in is available from 24 hours prior to departure. Passengers can choose their own seat and print out their own boarding passes from their home or office. Passengers who are unable to check-in via the Internet or who carry conventional paper tickets can make use of the check-in machines at Schiphol.
