JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Beginning this week Jacksonville Suns fans will have a new way to pay for food and beverage at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville, according to a news release.
Smart AgeBand Wristbands contain computer chips, which are used in conjunction with Smart Kiosks. The Smart Kiosks will be located on the main concourse of the ballpark, behind Section 111. Patrons can load their bands in any whole-dollar amount and funds will be available to be used for 30 days from the time the band is loaded.
The system allows patrons to load money using cash, credit or debit cards onto their wristbands for instant, automated purchases and streamlined operations. Smart AgeBand Wristbands revolve around a tiny, flat computer chip, sealed in a non-transferable plastic wristband that uses customized software to store and transfer data which is then read by digital readers. The Smart Kiosk works similar to an ATM machine, but instead of distributing cash, funds are transferred onto patrons' wristbands.
The Suns have utilized AgeBands for two seasons in an effort to stop underage drinking at the Baseball Grounds by scanning patrons' driver's licenses to verify their age. The Smart AgeBand system is the next step in enhancing fans' experience at the ballpark.
The program was tested during the SuperFest celebration at the Baseball Grounds in conjunction with Super Bowl XXXIX. The system helped increase throughput at concession stands and reduce long lines that often deter patrons from making additional purchases.
"Patrons like Smart Kiosk and find it intriguing that they could put money on wristbands," said Bill Schumpp, Director of Food and Beverage for the Jacksonville Suns. "Fans didn't have to worry about running out of or losing cash, and the shorter lines and faster service make for an overall great experience."
