• GPAnywhere 2.0 improves Windows-based kiosk security

BOSTON — FullArmor has announced the release of GPAnywhere 2.0, the latest addition to its IntelliPolicy suite of group policy management products. According to a news release, GPAnywhere enables enterprises to define, deliver and enforce Active Directory Group Policy settings and secure Microsoft Windows-based notebooks, mobile devices and kiosks even if they are not connected to the directory. In addition, GPAnywhere simplifies the migration from Windows NT4 and Netware to Active Directory by enforcing policies on Windows 2000/XP desktops until the rollout is complete.

FullArmor recently donated GPAnywhere software to Maria Fareri Children's Hospital in Valhalla, N.Y., to lock down settings on Windows PCs in its Companions in Courage interactive media room.

GPAnywhere ships with three standard Group Policy templates, high, medium, and low. Each template is populated with a fixed set of policy settings based on Microsoft best practices, which are selected or unselected to correspond with the template's pre-defined security posture. These templates enable kiosk administrators with no knowledge of Microsoft Group Policy to easily secure their machines. To create custom templates, GPAnywhere includes a Policy Template Designer that enables administrators to simply point and click to select or unselect policy settings from existing Group Policy settings.

In addition, GPAnywhere is fully integrated with Microsoft Group Policy and FullArmor IntelliPolicy for Clients. As a result, all of the Group Policy settings available in these two products can be used to define a GPAnywhere template.

To streamline deployment of Group Policy templates, GPAnywhere creates a standalone executable file that contains the desired settings. When the executable is run on Windows 2000 and above machines, it updates the Local Group Policy Object. GPAnywhere executable template files can be run in a script or scheduled to update the machine at regular intervals.
