Daily Breeze: With her two young boys in tow, Lisa McCoy strode straight past the short United Airlines ticketing line at LAX on a recent weekday morning and made a beeline for a self-service check-in kiosk.
A few beeps later, the touchscreen machine spat out tickets and boarding passes for their short flight to McClellan-Palomar Airport in north San Diego County. The entire operation took less than a minute, said McCoy, a Carlsbad resident who had just arrived from Australia with her sons Jackson, 9, and Lawson, 5.
"Anything to get out of standing in line with two kids," said McCoy, 35, who had been visiting her husband, an information technology manager on a six-month assignment in Sydney. "It was really easy."
McCoy availed herself of a service that not only makes traveling more convenient but also enhances security, aviation officials say. By speeding up the check-in process, kiosks help reduce some of the long lines in terminal lobbies that authorities say pose ripe targets for terrorists.
