Chicago Sun-Times: Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn pledged to work with state lawmakers in 2005 to attempt to force banks that do business with state government to eliminate "double-dip" ATM fees.
During a news conference in the Bank One/Chase Plaza, Quinn said the amount of business that the state does with Bank One alone merits a close look at his idea. As of last month, the state had more than $180 million deposited with Bank One, Quinn said. The City of Chicago had at least $50 million deposited with the bank, a division of J.P. Morgan Chase.
Banks seeking to do business with the state would be required to sign agreements that they would roll back ATM surcharges, according to legislation Quinn wants introduced in the General Assembly. There are about 6 million ATM cardholders in Illinois.
