LAGUNA HILLS, Calif. and STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. — The Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation agreed to use the resort amenity location system from SafeTzone Technologies Corporation. Steamboat becomes the first ski area in the world to provide this service and convenience to guests, according to a news release.
The Steamboat MountainWatch system utilizes a watch-like, waterproof RF locator device that communicates a person's location to RF readers. As individuals move through the resort, the locater communicates, via radio signal, the location and unique group information to the nearest antenna. The antenna then communicates via wireless network with the central computers to update the location of each member of that unique group.
The central computer instantly relays the new data to the LocationStations or kiosk. Kiosks will be located at 6 locations throughout the resort.
When a Steamboat MountainWatch user approaches the touch screen kiosks and scans their Locator, the passive RF tag automatically identifies them, linking them to information on the whereabouts of their group members. For security and privacy issues, guests can only locate members of their own unique group. Skiers can communicate with other in their group via kiosk messaging.
Steamboat MountainWatch will be incorporated into Steamboat's Childcare and Ski and Snowboard programs, which will assign a locator bracelet to every child in the resort's program. The system will also utilize active readers at the entrance/exits to resort children facilities.
