CINCINNATI — Software developer KAL is introducing Kalignite Upgrades, which it says provide low-cost, plug-in solutions for upgrading a bank’s ATM estate. One of the primary features of the new product suite is the ability to upgrade existing ATMs to support Triple DES.
In co-operation with its hardware partners, KAL will exhibit the Kalignite Upgrade Solutions at the BAI Retail Delivery Conference in Las Vegas Nov.16-18 in booth 8087.
According to a news release, the package includes a Triple DES compliant Encrypting PIN Pad (EPP) and a new PC processor with Windows XP SP2, plus the multi-vendor Kalignite NDC application.
For ATMs which are already Triple DES compliant but still running OS/2, KAL offers the Kalignite OS/2-to-XP Upgrade. This package migrates the ATM to Windows XP SP2 and incorporates the same hardware and software components as the Kalignite Triple DES upgrade.
The Kalignite Upgrade package retains the existing ATM peripheral devices but offers the ability to connect replacement or new, off-the-shelf devices as desired.
“The Kalignite Upgrade Solutions allow banks to keep existing ATMs in service for significantly longer than would otherwise be possible at a much lower total cost of ownership than purchasing new ATMs," said Steve Hensley, KAL’s EVP for sales.
The Kalignite Upgrade Solutions will be available for NCR ATMs beginning in February 2005. Kalignite NDC software is available now and supports all ATM models. KAL intends to add upgrade solutions for other ATMs in the future.
