BOSTON, Mass. — Village Software introduced a wireless solution called WiSK to remotely monitor and control self-service kiosks. WiSK (Wireless Solution for Kiosks) communicates with remote kiosks via SkyTel’s two-way paging network. WiSK uses the REFLEX protocol and Motorola technology to establish two-way communications between the kiosk and home office. Any stand-alone kiosk (photo kiosk, gaming kiosk) can be converted into a WiSK-enabled kiosk by installing Village Software’s Advanced Messaging Unit (AMU) and software. No additional external infrastructure is required.
Village Software provides the software and AMU for the kiosk, with secure hosting and storage of collected data and comprehensive reporting. Village also offers training programs for installation and maintenance. Software includes the WiSK console, which allows kiosk owners to act on kiosk problems from their home office (e.g. restart programs, reboot the kiosk computer, request a heartbeat message from the kiosk, etc.) Built-in reporting functionality allows kiosk owners to generate reports like revenue by kiosk per time period, performance by location, kiosk uptime, eyeballs per display screen or mode, etc. WiSK also includes an alert system. The system can be configured to send a pager message or email to specific personnel in response to particular conditions (e.g. out of paper, currency reader jammed, system hung up, etc.)
