• JBM Electronics adds ability to store ATM initialization messages in routers' memory

ST LOUIS — JBM Electronics, a developer of financial transaction routers, has enhanced its Gateway product line with the ability to store ATM or point-of-sale initialization messages in the Gateway's Flash memory.

According to a news release, the capability helps reduce bandwidth usage, providing significant savings by minimizing the cost of cell carrier plans. Furthermore, application information is quickly transferred to the terminal over the local connection, bringing the terminal back online faster.

Many ATM and POS terminals today require host processors to download the latest application software, screen formats and messages when the terminal powers on or after exception conditions.

Since these downloads do not change frequently, the time and bandwidth needed for the information transfer is an extra expense. The new Gateway application stores the information in non-volatile memory and services the application request locally.

The Linux-based Gateway C100, C200 and C300 families support this new capability. The C100 and C300 Series provide async serial or dial-only terminal support to Ethernet. The C200 Series adds support for CDMA or GSM cellular communications.
