Cash4all's wireless communications removes the need for a fixed line, enabling quick and easy installation in locations such as train stations.The ATM can also easily be moved to different locations, which allows Cash4all to be installed at temporary events such as music festivals.
Security is provided by ink-staining technology from Fluiditi, an NCR subsidiary. When the ATM's sensors detect a physical attack, indelible ink is released under high pressure. This makes the cash unusable and enables criminals to be traced through ink stains if they try to handle the notes.
"Although external ATMs typically drive higher transaction volumes than their internal counterparts, they have been countered by the higher costs associated with their installation, service and security," said Simon Rubin, NCR's vice president for financial self- service solutions for Northern Europe. "By bringing together a wireless ATM, a uniquely designed pod and world-class ink-staining security from Fluiditi, Cash4all offers banks and ATM deployers a new business model for the deployment of ATMs to many more convenient locations."
According to a report in The Scotsman, a number of machines have already been sold to independent deployers. NCR expects about 1,500 of the ATMs to be in use by the end of 2005.
The Cash4all is based upon a concept ATM called HARP (Handy Access in Remote Places), developed in NCR's Room 504 research laboratory in Dundee, Scotland.
