ORLANDO, Fla. — The City of Kissimmee, Fla., has contracted with Innoprise Software for a new kiosk-based solution for its community development needs including planning, zoning, permitting, land development, building plan review, building inspections and licensing. Earlier in the year, the city purchased Innoprise's Community Development software, which the city uses to create a consistent, up-to-date view of the various phases and steps of land development processes.
Under the new contract, the software will be extended to the public via interactive, Web-based, self-service kiosks strategically located in convenient locations throughout the city, where citizens can access them to complete a variety of government transactions. These include checking the status of license applications, fee payment, inspection scheduling and monitoring the progress of development projects.
"The kiosk negates the digital divide for those citizens who do not yet have Internet access and allows them to benefit from our online services," said Tony Curtis, geographic information systems manager for the city.
The first interactive kiosk is being installed in Kissimmee's City Hall to reduce wait times for the some 10,000 people who transact business with the Development Services Departments each year. The city will then expand the kiosk deployment to encompass parks and recreation, police and fire services, with kiosks located where citizens and developers commonly live and shop.
"We are looking at placing additional kiosks that offer similar services in city parks, Home Depot, Lowe's, government buildings and post offices," said Michael Steigerwald, community development director for the city.
