MCKINNEY, Texas — Diebold Election Systems responded to the announcement by the California Attorney General's office that it will not pursue criminal charges against Diebold and that it will intervene in the false claims case against the company.
"We are pleased with the Attorney General's decision that there is no basis for a criminal prosecution. We fully cooperated with the State as it looked into the issues and have always believed that the Attorney General would reach this conclusion,” said Thomas W. Swidarski, senior vice president, strategic development and global marketing for Diebold. Swidarski directly oversees the Diebold Election Systems subsidiary.
"As for the intervention in the false claims case, the company is confident that the State's decision to intervene will aid in a fair and dispassionate examination of the issues raised in the case.
Swidarski went on to say, "We will continue to work with California officials in an effort to put these issues behind us, build trust within the state and move forward with the safe, accurate and reliable elections that Diebold technology, combined with the dedication of voting officials, brings to the citizens of California."
