Times of India: Malappuram, India — Malappuram, formerly India’s most backward district, is now the country’s first e-literate district. The state of Kerala has deployed the world’s largest rural wireless broadband network, accessed via information kiosks that provide bill pay, e-mail, and Internet capability to residents. The state has instituted an aggressive computer literacy program, vowing to make all residents of the state e-literate by 2005. Read more …
