LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — Federal agents on July 28 took custody of James Glenn Henderson, a 45-year-old Conyers man charged in connection with two automated ATM thefts and suspected in several other heists.
According to the Gwinnett Daily Post, Henderson is accused of stealing construction equipment, driving to nearby banks and using the heavy equipment to knock the ATM machines off their concrete pedestals.
Federal authorities have charged him with thefts that occurred on June 19 at Homestead Bank in Suwanee and on July 19 at Wachovia bank.
“We know there were more, and they are all very similar,” said Special Agent Steve Lazarus of the FBI. “We are looking at them right now, but as of right now he has been charged with two.”
In addition to the federal charges, Conyers Police earlier this week charged Henderson with theft by taking for allegedly pulling off a similar burglary at South Trust Bank in Conyers.
Snellville Police also linked Henderson to a burglary attempt at a jewelry store. In that incident, he allegedly used a backhoe to ram his way into Mona’s Fine Jewelry and attempted to extract a safe inside. When he failed, he abandoned the backhoe and a stolen rental truck. Henderson was charged with burglary and several counts of theft and motor vehicle theft in that incident.
Federal and local authorities are also investigating Henderson in connection with several other high-profile ATM thefts. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance before a U.S. Magistrate Judge on July 29.
