• ATM Exchange encryption device approved by Visa-designated lab

CINCINNATI — The ATM Exchange says that Visa International has approved its 3DES PLUS® ATM security enhancement solution to be in compliance with Visa's PIN Entry Device (PED) security requirements.

In addition, and based on favorable evaluation results from the independent testing laboratory, T-Systems in Bonn, Germany, Visa has granted the 3DES PLUS solution with a Class "B" approval, which means that the entire ATM using the 3DES PLUS product has met Visa PED security requirements.

According to a news release, unlike a Class "C" approval where only the encrypting PIN pad (EPP) meets the Visa PED security requirements -- an approval granted by Visa to facilitate different model ATMs sharing the same EPP -- a Class "B" approval means that all applicable security requirements have been met by that particular ATM model.

"Based on the successful test results, Visa is pleased to issue its first ATM Class 'B' approval to ATM Exchange's 3DES PLUS product, which is in full compliance with our PIN entry device security requirements, including Triple DES," said Robert Tang, Visa product director for global acceptance and compliance.

"Ensuring ATM security and making sure that all PINs are properly protected using Triple DES in accordance to international standards is a top priority to Visa and its members, and we are thrilled that we measure up to the toughest encryption standards in the ATM industry," said Dave Parlin, president of The ATM Exchange.

ATM owners of all sizes -- including smaller regional banks, independent community banks and credit unions -- purchase 3DES PLUS directly from The ATM Exchange or from an independent third-party ATM servicer, according to the release.
