LONG BEACH, Miss. — Triton says the Encrypting PIN Pads (EPPs) on its RL5000 and FT5000 ATMs have been certified as being compliant with new security requirements that all ATM EPPs be tested and certified by Visa-approved facilities by July 1, 2004.
Triton's new EPP is the latest in a series of enhanced ATM security features, which include Triple DES encryption capabilities, now standard on all Triton ATMs.
"Triton actively supports any available security measures that will help prevent card fraud and ATM theft," said Brian Kett, Triton's president. "Our compliance with these measures also supports our partners in maintaining consumer confidence by preventing fraudulent ATM transactions."
An EPP improves security by encrypting PINs before they are transmitted from the terminal pad. The device prevents unencrypted PINs from being intercepted while in transit from the terminal pad.
Testing on Triton's EPP was conducted by T-Systems ITC Security lab of Germany.
Triton expects all makes and models of its ATMs will be compliant by Visa's July 1 deadline requiring all newly deployed ATM and cash dispensing PIN acceptance devices to pass laboratory testing by a Visa-recognized laboratory such as T-Systems.
