FORT WORTH, Texas--Cash America International, Inc., which operates about 135 Mr. Payroll check-cashing kiosks, will soon sport the familiar yellow and black Western Union logo on its kiosks, pawnshops and payday advance and check-cashing centers.
Cash America has signed an agency agreement to offer Western Union services in its U.S. locations. These neighborhood locations will phase in the addition of Western Union money orders and money transfer services to their current product offerings through the end of the year, according to a press release.
Cash America has been testing the services recently in a number of its pawnshops. In addition, Cashland centers and Mr. Payroll kiosks currently offer Western Union services.
Preliminary estimates from test markets and current operations suggest that over 6 million customers annually could use a Cash America, Cashland or Mr. Payroll location to purchase Western Union money orders and money transfers.
"Our customers like the convenience of finding trusted Western Union services in our neighborhood locations," said Dan Feehan, CEO of Cash America International, Inc., in the press release.
"We are committed to the integration of services to our customers that solve their financial needs within a single location to provide one-stop convenience."
The agreement spans five years and calls for Western Union to pay undisclosed financial incentives to Cash America in exchange for access to locations in neighborhoods with large numbers of customers who use money orders and money transfer services.
Also, Western Union will pay undisclosed marketing and merchandising allowances to Cash America during the agreement period.
Cash America International, Inc. is a provider of specialty financial services to customers in the U.S., United Kingdom and Sweden with 763 total locations as of Dec. 31, 2003.
