CHICAGO — The Midwest ATM Association, a not-for-profit corporation, has been established by three industry executives in response to Illinois' recent legislative changes banning surcharges on ATM withdrawals made by consumers using government-issued EBT cards.
The changes, which became effective Jan. 1, prohibit ATM owners from assessing a fee to consumers for usage of terminal located in Illinois if the consumer is using a Link Card.
According to a news release, the association's goals are to promote ATMs and their usage, raise funds for legislative lobbying and to bring together Illinois area ATM deployers to gain benefits not otherwise available to small ATM deployers.
The association's president is Brad Zerman, a 16-year veteran of the transaction processing industry and president of Qualtex Corporation, a Chicago based manufacturer and deployer of ATMs.
Other board members are: vice president, Robert Halperin, an 18-veteran of the telecommunications industry and president of ATM operator Metro ATM Management, Inc.; and secretary/treasurer, Mike Boyd, project coordinator of Rockford Tech Systems, a bank equipment and maintenance provider,and principal of Meirtran, a deployer of ATMs.
The companies represented by the association's board currently manage more than 1,500 ATM locations, according to the release.
The Midwest ATM Association invites ATM companies doing business in Illinois to attend the next meeting, set for 10 a.m. CST April 27 at Qualtex's headquarters, 1229 W. Washington, 4th Floor, Chicago, Ill., 60607.
