FORT WAYNE, Ind. — A court ordered a former Brink's driver who admitted to taking money from ATMs to pay $829,000 in restitution to the company and to serve two years in prison.
According to an Associated Press report, Scott H. Kammerer, 31, pleaded guilty in November to stealing $23,360 from a Three Rivers Federal Credit Union ATM near Fort Wayne on Aug. 5.
Kammerer, who worked for Brink's for more than two years, testified that he used security keys to open an ATM inside a Fort Wayne supermarket. Kammerer told investigators he grabbed stacks of $20 bills and thought at the time he had stolen $10,000 to $12,000.
As part of a plea agreement reached on March 19, Kammerer will help investigators as they investigate a number of other ATM thefts. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Miller said Kammerer admitted to stealing money from several ATMs while a Brink's employee, but investigators have not yet determined a total amount.
Brink's officials became aware of some of the missing money in late July and suspended Kammerer, according to the AP.
Kammerer must also serve three years on supervised release, during which time he would not be allowed to open lines of credit without approval from a probation officer.
