Surface capacitive touch screens are among the hottest new items added to a menu of offerings at Elo TouchSystems Inc., a global leader in touch technology and a division of Tyco Electronics.

According to a company press, the touch screens position the company as the primary single-source solution for all mainstream touch technologies. These include CarrollTouch infrared, IntelliTouch/Secure Touch/iTouch surface-wave, AccuTouch five-wire/AT4 four-wire resistive, and DirectTouch/ThruTouch projected capacitive.

Elo's new surface capacitive touch screen and touchmonitors are being demonstrated at CeBIT 2004 in Hannover, Germany through March 24.

The touch screens may be used in such markets as financial/ATM, entertainment/gaming, and retail, including ticketing machines, POS and kiosk-based applications.

"With the addition of surface capacitive touch screens, the Elo family provides the largest touch technology offering from any manufacturer," said Frank Lung, Elo's product manager.

"Developers, integrators, OEMs and resellers now have a reliable alternative resource for surface capacitive touch screens—one that is backed by a company that has provided the global standard in touch technology for over 30 years," Lung added. "Customers will also have the additional choice of surface capacitive technology when choosing among a range of Elo desktop and chassis touch monitors designed for a variety of applications."

In other news, Elo announced a rollout of a new controller for its IntelliTouch, iTouch, and SecureTouch surface-wave touch screens. The new 2700 Controller—the next generation of Elo's 2500 Controller—uses a new combined analog and digital chip and is less than half the size of its predecessor.

The company also is introducing a new Entuitive 1925L 19" LCD desktop touch monitor. It joins the recently announced 1947L 19" rear mount touch monitor as part of the company's family of 12", 15", 17" and 18" LCD desktop and chassis touch monitors that feature Elo's IntelliTouch surface-wave or AccuTouch five-wire resistive touch technologies.
