Chicago--Kiosks tested previously at McDonald’s restaurants in Denver and Raleigh, N.C., have made their way to Chicago, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The colorful machines are designed to expedite the process of ordering, paying for and receiving food.
Central to the mechanisms are touch screens mounted on counters. Customers can see pictures of menu items, select from among them, and pay—all at the same location.
In addition, the kiosks will be placed in playground areas, so young ones can head off to mischief while mom or dad pokes in orders for Happy Meals.
The machines accept cash and print receipts, which the customers take to pick-up stations to retrieve their orders. Staff return change and deliver the food.
New cooking technology will accelerate the process of preparing the food, further quickening the customer’s experience.
Early customer feedback indicates good results, restaurant manager Terry Polk said.
"Customers and employees really like it," Polk said. "It's really helped [speed up] my service, and customers like not having to wait in line."
