In 2001 KIOSK magazine covered an announcement from Hormel Foods Corporation that they were going to open a museum entirely dedicated to the flexible meat product SPAM. We were intrigued by the notification that interactive kiosks would be a part of the museum exhibit. The new 16,500 square-foot SPAM Museum opened in September 2001. At the museum visitors are welcomed to the world of the SPAM Family of Products with a variety of interactive and educational games, fun exhibits, remarkable video presentations, and of course kiosks. And where else would a visitor expect to find the SPAM kiosks but in the kitchen? Â Although in South Korea SPAM is considered a gourmet treat, here in the U.S. it's taken on more of a cult following as a representation of American efficiency. And, with facts such as more than 6 billion cans of SPAM have been sold since its inception or that Hormel produces 435 cans of SPAM per minute, it's no wonder people are fascinated by the luncheon meat. In the museum kitchen SPAM is allowing patrons to use technology to enhance their experience. At the Cyber Diner kiosks a visitor can access SPAM and Hormel related Web sites, join the on-line SPAM Fan Club and send SPAM postcards to friends and family.
