NORWALK, Conn. — A new high-speed cellular transport and routing service is now available from Ventus Networks, a full-service, end-to-end telecommunications provider that specializes in designing, implementing and managing wide area networks (WANs) for the financial industry.
According to a news release, the service works in conjunction with TCP/IP and legacy protocols, enabling any remote device -- including ATMs -- to communicate through a single network scheme.
Ventus Networks Cellular Routing Service operates over a private cellular (800 megahertz) and PCS (1900 megahertz) infrastructure, and is designed for businesses that have a portfolio of deployed devices facilitating financial transactions.
Ron Riva, vice president of Ventus Networks, said in the release, "By streamlining diverse cellular options, we've dramatically increased geographic coverage, lowered installation and monthly recurring costs, and we can get the service up and running fast."
Ventus Networks utilizes its own proprietary cellular VFN series routers, enabling operation in all GSM and CDMA2000 environments. The VFN routers operate as part of a virtual private network (VPN); data transport is protected by firewalls, providing enhanced security for ATMs, point-of-sale terminals or kiosks.
Monitored at Ventus Networks Operation Centers, the network allows for secure, seamless transaction routing between device and host processor. Because Ventus enjoys direct connections to all major providers of cellular service, coverage is not limited by cellular infrastructures or roaming areas.
According to a release, customers pay a flat monthly fee rather than a per-transaction fee for cellular transaction routing services.
Ventus Networks provides a complete package of terrestrial and cellular infrastructure solutions, complemented by a suite of managed and customer service offerings, according to the release.
In October 2003, Deloitte & Touché awarded Ventus Networks two Rising Star Awards in recognition of the company's growth. Ventus Networks was ranked 15th of the top 500 fastest growing companies in North America.
