Corona, Calif.-based AVT Inc. announced it had developed a self-serve kiosk that allows consumers to "sell" their used video games for instant on-the-spot cash or credit.

Using proprietary software and technology developed in-house by the AVT engineering team, the new kiosks utilize a continuously-updated web-based database to give consumers the highest possible price for their games, based on current values, and supply and demand, according to AVT. The company expects the new units to start shipping in first quarter of 2011.

The customer places the disk into the kiosk, and the system then scans the disk for flaws, condition, type and piracy, and then offers a price to "purchase" the game. The customer can elect to receive either cash or a credit to his credit or debit card.

AVT is a provider of technology-based automated retailing systems, ranging from small kiosks to large automated environments that can enhance or replace book stores, cosmetic counters and gift shops.

Does Kiosk market Place not do research on companies they post stories on?
This does not reflect the truth. AVT is NOT the first company to develop this technology, this is misleading. E-Play was a company based out of Columbus Ohio and had this technology out in the market place at Speedway gas stations. E-Play is the company that developed this and even if you do research will find that E-Play was dealing with Wal-Mart on this type of kiosk long before AVT even knew what was happening. Someone needs to investigate why it is many companies like AVT can take ideas and credit for technology they never developed.....Wake up People !!

Josh is correct, a firm called e-Play was in this space. That's my fault for not checking them out. They apparently went out of business earlier this year. Burney Simpson
