Several hospital staffs throughout England hope self-service kiosks will make it faster to check in patients. In fact, the process could take only six seconds, according to a story on e-health-insider.com.
The kiosks will notify staff of patient arrivals and also direct patients to appropriate waiting areas and consultation rooms. Hospital executives hope the technology will reduce administration and associated costs of traditional hospital check-ins, according to Intouch with Health, the company deploying the machines.
"The vast majority of the British public is now familiar with such touchscreen, self-service technology, thanks to its successful uptake in supermarkets, rail stations and airports," said Gordon Lorimer, managing director of Intouch with Health. "People recognize that self-service equals less waiting around and a less-stressful overall experience, whether they're doing the mid-week shop or attending a hospital appointment."
