Biometrics kiosks will soon make it easier for medical patients to buy marijuana, according to a press release from Cannabis Medical Solutions Inc., a company specializing in merchant payment solutions and financial products for the medical marijuana and health-care industries.
The company has announced an agreement with "one of the largest medical self-service kiosk providers in the United States" to deploy kiosks by April, that allow approved marijuana patients in approved states to register, order, pay and receive medication from the licensed dispensary.
How it works
A patient will register at the terminal one time only. After the initial registration, a patient's identity is verified through a finger scan, and the kiosks will display a library of all medicine and strains available at the dispensary location. Once the desired medication is selected, the patient chooses the amount and payment method, and will then receive a bio-thermal label and receipt to seal the medicine with a patient ID. Actual medicine is dispensed by the caregiver behind the wellness counter.
"We have tried to listen and learn as to the needs of not only the dispensaries but the patients most importantly," said Michael Friedman, acting CEO of Cannabis Medical Solutions Inc. "We believe these kiosks offer many benefits including patient security as well as financial payment security to the owners."
The cost
The kiosks can be leased to any dispensary owner for less than $1,000 a month, regardless of credit, with a buy-out after one year.
"Once installed, it will now be almost impossible to have instances of credit card or employee fraud at our locations," Friedman said. "Further, the identification, selection and payment model with the patient receiving the dose from behind the counter and examining before sealed with our tamperproof label, far exceeds the model of an actual machine dispensing medicine which may be old, have mold in the container or not what the patient thought he paid for."
