The Personal Health Station & Smart Card System designed by Phoenix Kiosk Inc. and MedApps Inc., an lmHealth (mobile/remote health monitoring) company, will debut at the American Telemedicine Association (ATA) conference this week in Tampa, Fla.

Phoenix Kiosk is providing the Personal Health Station, which consists of the Health Kiosk outfitted with a blood pressure cuff, weight scale and printer for real-time biometric reports. MedApps is providing its cloud-based connectivity platform, CloudCare, to support an integrated Kiosk/Smart Card System to transmit acquired health data to a user's electronic health record (EHR). Biometric data can be collected and stored to a smart card, onsite at the Health Kiosk location or remotely by utilizing MedApps' Health Reader, which connects to the users' personal health monitors at home. Each option uses Phoenix Kiosk's health station as the upload or connectivity point.

According to the press release, the objective was to establish a "health-care gateway" to the CloudCare platform that is accessible for consumers at a variety of entry points based on features and cost.
Leading pharmacy chains are paving the way and filling a void in the health-care arena with in-store clinics and corporate wellness programs — this Kiosk/Smart Card System would enhance and broaden these services. Offering a low cost access point for individuals in the retail and work environments to engage in their health-care management can extend the demonstrated benefits of remote patient monitoring to a broader population, the release stated.
It also said that the system's ease of use is ideal for individuals who do not want to use a computer or smart phone to connect with their EHRs. Retailers will additionally benefit with greater opportunities to acquire and maintain health-conscious consumers in their stores and help keep the customer connected to their healthcare provider.
The system can also serve as a marketing vehicle by offering rewards as well as internal promotions.
