The IntoxBox is debuting at two trade shows this week at the Las Vegas Convention Center — the Night Club and Bar Owners Convention and Trade Show, March 12-14, and the Amusement Expo, March 14-16.
Touted in a company news release as "the world's first smart blood alcohol content testing kiosk for bars," the interactive IntoxBox program steps customers through a BAC test. At the end of the test, the user has the option to order a cab by touching an icon on the screen.
The kiosk incorporates entertainment value by inviting customers to guess their blood alcohol content. If the guess is correct, the user receives a text on their mobile phone with an activation code for a free Intox Box test in the future.
The Intox box features a 19-inch touch screen monitor that can cycle ads when not in use, as well as dynamic graphics, interactive user interface and remote management system. A remote monitoring system allows operators to troubleshoot equipment functions and track paid transactions from a computer or smart phone.
"We've tried to make the IntoxBox experience something that entertains, educates, informs and provides a transportation option for customers who may decide not to drive their own vehicle home from the bar," said Ryan Walden, president and co-founder of Eden Prairie, Minn.-based Walden Innovative Resources, which makes the Intox Box. "Driving under the influence is a very serious issue, and we want to give customers all the tools they need to make a responsible decision."
